IN NEED HOME TALK 01

I

We invited Barbra as the 1st guest of the series of In Need Home stakeholders story. Check it out !!

When did you join In Need Home?

I joined In Need Home when I was 7 in 2007. One of my neighbor who was our family friend found me in a vulnerable situation and brought me to In Need Home.

The girl who’s looking at the camera is Barbra!

How was your situation before you joined In Need Home?

The situation was not good. my mother came from northern Uganda because of the then lords resistance war as a displaced person and we were very young. After a long time of unemployment, she got a temporary casual work to sort coffee beans. The money she received was not enough for the care of 5 biological children and the other children who she received from her relatives. I would stay home in Namuwongo slum until my mother would come back from sorting coffee in the evening.I never had the opportunity to go to the school and all i would do was to admire those children who were in school

Do you remember the feeling when you joined In Need Home?

I felt so good. Because they provided us almost everything like food and clothes. Although we needed to pay 200 UGX for every use of the toilet in the slum community, In Need Home provided that service for free and it helped me a lot. I cannot forget the foreign volunteers who mostly came from canada that would help us at In Need Home. They made me feel happy too.I enjoyed walking and playing with them  besides studying

Her life in In Need Home

How has your life changed since you joined In Need Home?

First of all, I was able to start my studies! After 2 years learning at In Need Home, I joined primary 2 through the support of In Need Home. Furthermore, I fortunately received sponsorship for my secondary education and for my university studies. I studied journalism at University and I will graduate in November. Until I graduate, I'm supporting In Need Home as a volunteer.

Her art work at university. This art work means that a mother is welcoming her children.

What’s your plan after graduation?

I hope I will be able to work in an NGO as a staff. Because I want to help others like my mother and In Need Home.

Although it is really difficult to get a job in Uganda even after graduating from university, I'll keep trying to achieve my dream.

How was her interview?

As In Need Home we are very grateful to have such a graduate who has very beautiful heart. After graduation, we always continue supporting the graduates until they are self sustaining.

Thank you very much Barbra to share your story and your support for In Need Home.

Cooking is her favorite!!
