How did you find In Need Home (INH) and when did you join?

I heard the rumours in the community that INH gives support to the vulnerable. I then went to INH myself and asked for help. They interviewed me to make sure I was a good fit and from there they helped me. I joined in 2016.

How was your situation before you joined INH?

My situation was extremely bad. I was not able to feed my children. I was also renting my house at the time and was not even able to pay the rent.

How did In Need Home help you jump start your business?

INH brought facilitators from Makerere University Business School – Entrepreneurship Innovation Incubation Centre (MUBS-EIIC) who trained myself and a few other women in business skills and techniques. I then obtained the certificate and INH gave me some starting capital to begin the compound grass business. Since I joined INH my life completely changed. I was able to start making a steady amount of money which allowed me to buy food to feed my children and take care of them all together. I was also able to help other vulnerable children. I have also been able to buy a plot of land where I was able to build my home.

Can you explain what exactly is your business?

I am in the business of Compound Grass. I grow the grass and then sell it to people such as gardeners or people building homes.

What motivates you to continue working hard?

I want to work hard because I want to get out of the slums because it is extremely congested and I would like to live more comfortably with my family. I eventually want to buy a larger piece of land that is more open for farming so I can expand my business.

Any advise you have to people who are in similar situations to yourself?

If you ever get faced with any opportunity of getting some type of training you should 100 percent take the chance. By taking this chance it can absolutely transform their life
