In Need Home (hereinafter called “INH”) is a legalised NGO started by Anny Ngoga Bwengye in 2003 and makes 20years this year of 2023. It was started with an aim of helping the vulnerable children in the slums of Namuwongo.

Years back when INH started, children would come at mid-day to get what to eat and use the toilets because there were few toilets in the slums and to access them, one had to pay an average of 200-500 shillings, most people resorted to open defecation which made the slum poor in terms of sanitation since some people were not able to pay. As time went on, the organization enrolled for morning time whereby the children were provided with breakfast and lunch.

Under our education program, we have some children who were able to complete their studies like in journalism, education, plumbing, electricity and many other courses. This is really an achievement for the organization if the children are seen succeeding in life.

INH partners with organizations for example, Moroto Catholic Diocese, Mary Poppins Learning Centre and different primary and secondary schools, universities and vocational schools. And it’s really a privilege to have volunteers from different destinations and interns from particular universities.

INH has empowered so many households whereby every year 25households are supported with some capital to start up their businesses to sustain their families. This is normally done after free entrepreneurship trainings provided Mukerere University Business School- Entreprenuership, Innovation and Incubation Centre (MUBS-EIIC).

Other stakeholders who support household economic strengthening include Kampala International Church(KIC-Charity Committee) and individuals for example Sultan Bhimani and Clarke International University students have organized a fundraiser tagged as “Scavenger hunt” to raise start up capital for 5 households to start family Income Generating Activities to support their families to earn a decent life.

After 20-years’ history, INH is now facing with the challenge of funding, especially of making school fees. Therefore, we are trying to establish better ways to continue our support by bringing various ideas such as starting social enterprises, building our own schools-both Primary and Secondary Schools.

Our path to help the less privileged is not been a smooth journey. However, we will never give up and keep working for a brighter future for children and Uganda at large.

Because we have our dear donors, staff, board members, volunteers and interns who support INH and always encourage us. Because we have our dear children, families, and communities that trust and appreciate INH.

Thank you all for the love you have given us for the last 20 years. INH will keep walking forward to live up to your support for the next 20 years.
